# Colours

Colours use MiniMessage, the format most Paper plugins use: a tag in angle brackets before the words, and the same tag with a `/` after them.

```markdown
The market is <gold>open every day</gold>.
```

## Minecraft's sixteen colours

| Tag              |           | Tag             |            |
| ---------------- | --------- | --------------- | ---------- |
| `<white>`        | White     | `<gray>`        | Grey       |
| `<dark_gray>`    | Dark grey | `<black>`       | Black      |
| `<red>`          | Red       | `<dark_red>`    | Dark red   |
| `<gold>`         | Gold      | `<yellow>`      | Yellow     |
| `<green>`        | Green     | `<dark_green>`  | Dark green |
| `<aqua>`         | Aqua      | `<dark_aqua>`   | Dark aqua  |
| `<blue>`         | Blue      | `<dark_blue>`   | Dark blue  |
| `<light_purple>` | Pink      | `<dark_purple>` | Purple     |

## Any colour

```markdown
<#ff8800>A colour of your own</#ff8800>
<gradient:#66d17a:#4fc3f7>Fading from green to blue</gradient>
<rainbow>Every colour in turn</rainbow>
```

{% hint style="info" %}
**In the editor**, the **Colour** button does this for you, and every colour in the text gets a dot in front of it. Click the dot to change the colour.
{% endhint %}

## Other tags

Any MiniMessage tag works, for example a tooltip:

```markdown
<hover:show_text:'Found in the Nether'>Netherite</hover>
```

The full list is in the [MiniMessage documentation](https://docs.advntr.dev/minimessage/format.html). Tags inside `code` are shown as written instead.
